On Weddings
We held an intimate family wedding in Rathsallagh House in early January and we could not have asked for a more perfect day. From the minute we arrived, we were so warmly welcomed and everything seemed to flow with such ease throughout the day. Venue: The setting for wedding blessing in the “Orangery” was perfect for our wedding for 70 guests. The room was full of natural light and the vaulted ceiling emphasized the amazing voice and harp of Orla Fallon. The dining reception room was well organised, which allowed for the tables to be placed close together during the meal, and later for the band and DJ to fill the dance floor. Food: Each course was of an exceptional standard and of very generous proportions. Guests were offered seconds of the amazing beef, not that anyone was going hungry. Our guests were equally impressed by the variety and quality of the food and juices presented for breakfast. Service & Staff: The service was discreet but extremely attentive at all times. The wedding coordinators and house staff were constantly present throughout the day and evening to assist us in any way possible. The dining staff cheerfully catered specific requests throughout the meal. The bar staff were equally accommodating throughout the night and did an exceptional job attending to the guests. Following the wedding service, Mr Joe O’Flynn, the owner of Rathsallagh House, personally presented my wife and I with a glass of champagne and he and his mother were the first to offer us congratulations and well wishes. Overall experience: Rathsallagh House is a gorgeous venue with character filled rooms, brilliant food, and staff who went out of their way to make our wedding one that will be raved about both in Ireland and Australia. The stunning grounds provided a superb backdrop for wedding photographs. We would like to thank everyone at Rathsallagh House in making our wedding day so unforgettable. The venue and staff exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend Rathsallagh House to anyone considering it as a wedding venue. Our only one regret with the whole experience is that the day seemed to be over far too quickly!
A perfect wedding with memories to treasure " Reviewed December 14, 2011
From the first day we visited Rathsallagh to check it out as a wedding venue, we felt at home and didn't want to leave. It is a magical place, only an hour for Dublin and situated in rolling green countryside, with beautiful landscaped gardens. The wedding planner Catherine and her team worked with us to personalise our wedding. Their attention to detail, very professional but "no fuss manner" really helped to make the planning a really enjoyable experience for us. Nothing was a problem. The O'Flynn family, Joes Senior and Junior were also on hand to attend to our every need. They gave a real Irish welcome to all our guests and welcomed our dog Milly and horses Wayne and Ruby as if they were part of their family. We spent three wonderful days at the house. They facilitated us to ride in to the reception on our horses and for wayne to show off his dressage skills!! The eve of the wedding we had an intimate dinner for family and close friends. The day of the wedding Catherine and the team were on hand to attend to our every need. The wedding ceremony was in the beautiful Dining Room in the Main House followed by a champagne reception in the walled gardens. The wedding reception was in the permanent marquee, the candlelight tables and the lights in the surrounding trees made the atmosphere magical. The food and wine were exceptional, the staff really pulled out all the stops. We had a bar-b-que in the golf club- house the day after the wedding and again the food and service was great and we partied well into the night! Our guests are still talking about the venue and returned visits are planned and that speaks volumes. I can't recommend Rathsallagh enough, the O'Flynn family and staff opened their home and their hearts and made us feel as if we were the only couple getting married there this year. Thank you Rathsallagh Celine and Greg
“Magical, romantic, Christmas at Rathsallagh” Reviewed December 9, 2011
The words on everyone’s lips after our wedding at Rathsallagh were ‘magical’ and ‘romantic’. Right from the very first enquiry to Rathsallagh, they were professional yet friendly and effortlessly arranged our wedding without fuss. Once we visited and saw the orangery – we were sold. The wedding coordinators anticipated our every need and efficiently took control if the situation demanded. Gillian was cool, calm and collected. Jennifer was lovely and so complimentary. We felt so confident in their expertise and were made to feel like we were the only couple that got married there this year. Rathsallagh House itself is the magical ingredient. The magic was most evident the day of the wedding; the air of anticipation and excitement was palpable. The staff must love working there because I don’t think you can feign such content in carrying out your work. You get the old Irish welcome from the O’ Flynn family which unfortunately has become rare these days. The staff and exclusivity of Rathsallagh made us feel at home albeit in a very beautiful, warm, romantic, Christmassy home. It’s old world yet professional Ireland where you don’t have to lock your door as there’s a mutual trust as Rathsallagh is entrusting you to care for their beautiful house. The bedrooms that I saw; Half Acre, Bluebell, Yellow and Blue rooms are gorgeous. Of the photos I’ve seen, many of them are of the ensuite bathrooms! The drawing rooms with their roaring turf fires provided cosy comfort the next day as we happily recounted the day (under no pressure to move on even though we subsequently heard that there was a large booking that evening). It rained the day of our wedding - my new French husband tells me that it’s very good luck in France. It didn’t matter though as it was beautiful the next morning so people got to explore the beautiful grounds. My father is still talking about someone leveling the gravel before the ceremony; this is the kind of attention to detail that sets Rathsallagh apart. The babysitters also deserve special mention – they were excellent and we had no hesitation leaving children in their expert care. As for the food and wine….it was the talking point of the wedding, only topped by the breakfast next morning. People were giving us credit for sourcing the cheese and wine but I had to confess it was all down to Rathsallagh. All I would say to any couple planning to marry there – is to trust Rathsallagh….they know what their doing .
Just back from a two night stay in rathsallagh for a friends wedding. The house itself is wonderfully charming, warm & inviting, with old worlde decor that thankfully never was modernised. You really get the feeling your sinking into a bit of heaven when you arrive here. The many lounges with their open fireplaces, Christmas trees & garlands made it all the more magical! The rooms are large, spacious & again old world romantic. The staff are so friendly & helpful. Nothing is a problem. Every 'T 'crossed & 'I' checked effortlessly. The orangery where the cermony was held was magical. We had a 5 star 5 course buffet meal which was outstanding. Not a fan of carvery or anything that involves getting up when I can be sitting down, I found myself a bit curious as to how this would work. It was DELICIOUS! Such a variety & amount of food. And what flavors & tastes! Everything piping hot & fresh. Truly the nicest meal I've ever eaten at a wedding. And again the service was impeccable. We were all blown away by rathsallagh & all it had to offer. Truly a unique & wonderful experience that deserves all the praise a hotel can get. Stayed December 2011
" Perfect Wedding" Reviewed November 14, 2011
We got married in Rathsallagh this summer and we are still receiving compliments on our choice of venue. The service provided by Mags, Mary and their bar and waiting staff was excellent. The food was one of the highlights of the whole day, and people have remarked that it was one of the nicest meals, let alone wedding dinners, that they’ve ever had. Gillian, Patricia and Jennifer were great wedding coordinators and know exactly what they’re doing. The whole day went smoothly, without any fuss, and they worked tirelessly behind the scenes making sure that we and our guests were looked after in every way.
The venue itself is stunning, and you really feel like the house and grounds are yours for the day. Thankfully we had dry weather, so we could use the exquisite walled garden for our drinks reception. We couldn’t ask for more. This venue deserves all its great success and full credit to Joe for assembling a special team of staff. We look forward to our annual visit back to enjoy everything Rathsallagh has to offer.
The best wedding venue anywhere in the world !! Reviewed October 18, 2011
I have just returned from the best weekend and wedding I have ever been to. My brother got married at Rathsallagh on Friday and I have NEVER been to wedding that can compare. The venue, setting, staff, food and accommodation are faultless. If you are considering getting married here then anywhere else will just be settling for second best. It is expensive but the cost buys you everything you could ever want for a fairytale wedding. I have never been to a wedding with 100+ guests where the food is just perfect for each person, honestly words fail me as to how fabulous this place is. Go on just book it!!! Room Tip: We stayed in the Yellow Room which was superb. It is over the bar so could be noisy if you are looking for an early night.
“Fab!!” Reviewed August 27, 2011
A friend of mine had her wedding reception at Rathsallagh so we stayed overnight. It was a fabulous venue for the wedding. Food was delicious, staff were most helpful and the sun shone all day! When we pulled up outside the hotel, we were guided to the outside mews. Check in was efficient and we had a great sized room which was beautifully decorated and a HUGE bathroom! The gardens are ideal for wedding photos and the staff were always on hand to replenish our drinks. The food for the wedding was delicious. Breakfast the following morning had a lot of choice, cereal, fruit, pastries, full Irish, several juices. Definitely sorted us out from the night before! Would recommend this hotel for sure. Fab stay

We celebrated our wedding in Rathsallagh House on 6th of May 2011 and it was a truly fantastic day. Catherine and Gillian were so helpful and ensured that the day ran smoothly and we didn't have to worry about any little details. Our guests really enjoyed themselves and thought the food was fantastic. I couldn't recommend Rathsallagh House highly enough. It provides a really warm and welcoming atmosphere, with friendly yet very professional staff and a really high standard of dining. We can't wait to go back and visit on our first anniversary.

We got married in Rathsallagh on 28th December this year (2010) and I really couldn't praise the hotel and it's staff enough. From the moment we arrived ( and bear in mind the stressful weather conditions around the time of our wedding!) until the next day, the service was absolutely second to none. Almost all of our guests were amazed by the quality of the food and the ease with which everyone was attended to. The staff in Rathsallagh have a way of making people feel that nothing is too much trouble and this was very apparent not only on the day of the wedding but in the run up to the big day. A really wonderful hotel
We recently held our wedding reception at Rathsallagh and could not recommend it highly enough. Many of our guests stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Catherine was so accomodating and helpful to deal with, nothing was too much trouble. The food and service were top class. We enjoyed clay pigeon shooting and a superb barbeque at the golf club the day after our reception. We have already returned to Rathsallagh since our honeymoon for their legendary Sunday lunch and recieved a very warm welcome from all the staff. Well done to Joe and all at Rathsallagh.
"Ideal venue for an intimate Wedding" Reviewed June 13, 2011 - NEW
This review is embarrassingly long overdue! We got married in Rathsallagh in August 2010. We cannot recommend Rathsallagh highly enough - had stayed there before on usiness and loved the place. As a wedding venue, it is idyllic as you have the entire house to yourselves. The food is superb and surely deserving of a Michelin star!! Each meal is cooked to order and the individual service was fantastic. While it was our wedding, and we may be a bit biased, all our guests said the same and two of our guests are now getting married there because they loved it so much. The personal service from the highly professional staff provided a seamless service from beginning to end. Planning the wedding was painless and the day passed without a hitch - with special thanks to Jennifer, Gillian and Joe. The rooms are superb with a real sense of comfortable opulence and fantastic individual style. The walled garden and grounds of the estate are stunning. The breakfast is legendary! Have recommended it to everyone we know as the best in its class!
We stayed for our wedding anniversary on 6th November on a two night break....................and what a wonderful break it was..........we parked the car and didn't move for the two days. We had friends visit each night for dinner and the food was just superb. The main reason we return to Rathsallagh is the wonderful warm welcome, from Dorothy on reception to Joe wandering the tables in the restaurant you are made to feel like an old friend rather than a paying guest. We were lucky with the weather, it was a beautiful autumn weekend and the grounds were simply superb with all the autumnal colours. Our room was one of the garden rooms, Bluebell, with French windows leading out to the lawn and on through the arch to the walled garden. I know there’s a lot to see locally but take our advice and park the car, wander the grounds, back to the bar for soup and sandwiches and maybe a pint or two, a nice snooze and a fantastic dinner in the restaurant, follow by a sumptuous breakfast in the morning……………and then a three week diet when you get home. Thanks to all at Rathsallagh for another great visit
“A truly wonderful wedding day - 16 April 2010” Reviewed November 8, 2010
We had our wedding reception at Rathsallagh House on 16 April 2010. Our wedding day got off to a somewhat dramatic start with the ash cloud developing the day before meaning some of our guest were not able to make it!! However despite this sad fact we had the most wonderful wedding day and a big part of that is thanks to Rathsallagh house. I could write thousands of words to describe how wonderful Rathsallagh was but to sum up in brief our experience: Rathsallagh House was the most magical and romantic setting, with every little detail being looked after by the fantastic staff at Rathsallagh House. The ash cloud brought unexpected good weather and Rathsallagh were quick to ensure we made the most of it by deciding to have our drinks reception outside. Above all things (the lovely surroundings, wonderful staff, fantastic bedrooms for all our guests) the food was the absolute highlight. Our guests are still, 7 months on, talking about the steak, some even admitting it was better than their mothers cooking!!!! As a bride, planning her wedding, Rathsallagh could not have made things easier. They helped me plan the day without any effort on my part and everything fell into place so well. We were delayed getting out on honeymoon and Rathsallagh kindly invited us back to stay with them so we could start our honeymoon. I have always liked Rathsallagh but after celebrating the most important day of my life there I LOVE it. I highly recommend Rathsallagh as a wedding venue and am so thankful we decided to have our big day there. Thank you to all at Rathsallagh and a special thank you to Gillian:-)
On Romantic & Short Breaks
This is a double whammy, as it reflects both a Sunday lunch a few weeks ago, and an evening dinner on Saturday 18th Feb. First, Sunday lunch. This consists of a carvery, but not as you have ever previously experienced. On arrival we were greeted by the owner and ushered off to have an aperitif, ensconced in front of a roaring log fire. The carvery consists of not only beef, pork, ham, venison etc., but you can also avail of a fresh fish option. In fact you can have fish followed by meat if you so desire. There is a huge selection of starters, and best option is to try a little of all of them. Desserts and cheese follow a similar pattern, and lunch stretched out over a two and a half hour period. Towards the end of the main course, the chef went around the tables advising people that there was lots of meat left and would anyone like to try a little more? The owners wife then visited every table to ensure that everyone was totally happy with every detail of the meal and service. Great experience, and one I will repeat at the earliest opportunity. Second visit for dinner last week was equally agreeable. Interesting and creative menu, where possible, reflecting the best of local produce. My 'Pork belly croquette' was different and delicious, with the shredded belly formed and coated with a light crispy coating. All the other starters were equally creative and moreish! Great selection of mains, with me opting for monkfish and tempura shrimp in an Asian infusion. As on the previous occasion, all the tables were fully occupied, which in itself is a testament to the quality of the food.. Prices were reasonable, similar to what you would be charged in a bistro style restaurant in Dublin. They have an allegedly great golf course on the grounds, but not being a player, this was of little interest to me. So in conclusion, two of my more memorable eating experiences in recent months, and I would be happy to recommend Rathsallagh House to anyone interested in fine dining in a warm and friendly environment.
We recently stayed for one night in this beautiful hotel! We arrived down later then expected and were met with friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us! They organised some great sandwiches served in the drawing room by the log fire - heaven. The room itself was a great size and the bathrooms simply divine - such a lovely shower! Dinner was delicious, very high standard of food and service. The staff were just fantastic, so helpful and friendly. We had such a lovely time and would go back in a heart beat. Would highly recommend to all :-)
Rathsallagh is one of the coziest and most welcoming places I've found in Ireland. The house itself is great - the drawing rooms had roaring log fires and comfortable couches, and were a perfect venue for afternoon tea with the newspapers. Our room was spacious, with a really good bed and bathroom (if I had anything negative to say, it would be that the room was just a tiny bit chilly for me, although my companion didn't think so at all). A stroll around the gardens helped to work up an appetite for dinner. Food is very good and the dining room is atmospheric.
The lovely surroundings would be nothing without the staff. There's a real sense that the people who work here enjoy what they do. For us, the atmosphere was due in large part to the friendliness and enthusiasm of the people working here. We loved it. We visited Rathsallagh for a winter break, and were blown away by the experience. The interior of the house is as quaint and charming as the exterior suggests; we loved the way the accommodation feels like the interior of a family home and not at all like an exclusive hotel. Our room was comfortable and cosy - I'm a bit jealous to be honest! We actually saw two rooms, and each room seems to have it's own unique personality. Our room also had a nice selection of coffee-table books that made a pleasant change from vegetating in front of the television. What our room lacked in "modernity" or "technology" as found in many hotels, it more than made up for in homeliness, simplicity, original and quaint features and above all - comfort. The soul of the room, and the building, is something that cannot be matched by a conventional hotel. There is a small bar, and some public drawing rooms where guests can relax by the open fire. I can definitely recommend walking the grounds and gardens - there is plenty of space for golfers and non-golfers alike to enjoy the fresh air without ever leaving the estate. We ate breakfast, dinner and Sunday lunch in the dining room and were impressed by the menu, the food and the service. The kitchen are proud to use local produce where possible. The staff are friendly and attentive, and we wanted for nothing. There is a wonderfully personal service in the dining room, with the Chef stopping to chat with the guests during Sunday lunch service. We will definitely return here in the future (I'm just trying to find an excuse!)
“Superb, Outstanding, Amazing!” Reviewed August 21, 2011
My husband and I and two hairy babies have just returned from our first stay at Rathsallagh House - and all four of us are depressed after a wonderful stay. I can't say enough of nice things about the stay other than it was exceptional and we are all very envious of Becket the retriever who gets to live there. Staff were excellent - It is very obvious that they are happy to work there. Mr O'Flynn snr is a total character - mean that in the nicest possible sense and the food was fantastic. We had the apricot room and it was gorgeous and the fact that we could open the doors and play with the dogs in the garden was utterly brilliant. Words cannot describe this fantastic place and I'm already dropping very serious hints about what I want for Christmas!!
"Incredibly relaxing" Reviewed June 10, 2011 -
We stayed here for one night, a Saturday, and it was bliss. From the second we checked in, everything was taken care of for us. We had the set menu dinner on Saturday night, which I thought it was very expensive at first, but I'm very glad that we went for it. We settled first in the bar, and were brought to our table in the restaurant when it was ready. After the meal, which was really wonderful, we relaxed in the drawing rooms and there was always staff on hand to bring you anything you wanted. Everything can be charged to the room, so you don't need to worry about money for the night. The staff are great, they're very efficient, and while you don't notice them, they're always there when you need something.
"Quiet country house experience" Reviewed November 12, 2010
We had a fantastic night in Rathsallagh House. Arrived in the afternoon, a little early for check in but our room was ready so we were delighted. The room was huge, fantastic big bed and enormous bathroom. We decided as the weather was not so nice we sat reading the papers in one of their lovely drawing rooms with hot chocolate and scones by the fire. What a treat! Had dinner that night and the food was fantastic. Great sleep and breakfast again the morning was delicious. They cook eggs to order which I was particularly pleased at as I hate the congealed eggs on offer at many establishments. All in all a wonderful experience and what you would expect a country house to be with regards to hospitality. It was 5 star. I would recommend this place to anyone but particularly for a romantic getaway.
